Privacy Policy

Portionary keeps your food data on your phone by design. This policy explains what stays on the device, the few optional features that send data off it, and how support requests are handled.

Information Stored On Your Device

Portionary stores the data you create in the app, including household members and their targets, ingredients, recipes, daily logs, favorites, and settings. This lives in local storage on your phone.

Local data stays on your device until you delete it in the app, erase your household in Settings, clear app data, or remove the app. Log entries record their nutrition at the time you save them, so your history does not change later.

Household Sync (Optional)

If you join a household across two phones, Portionary relays your members, recipes, and logs through a hosted relay so both phones stay in agreement. A short household code scopes that data. There is no account and no name attached to it.

Sync is optional and can be turned off in Settings. When two phones change the same thing, the most recent change wins. You can leave a household or erase your data at any time.

Text Drafting (Optional)

When you describe what you ate in words, Portionary sends only that typed text to a hosted service that turns it into a draft of food items for you to review and correct before saving.

Portionary does not ask for microphone access. Only the text you type is sent. Nothing is sent until you use the feature, and you confirm the result before it becomes part of your day.

Food Lookups And Barcodes (Optional)

A slice of USDA food data ships inside the app, so your first log works with no network. When you are online, Portionary can look up foods you do not already have from a hosted food catalog and from Open Food Facts.

The barcode scanner uses your camera only to read a product code, which is looked up on Open Food Facts. The camera image is not stored and is not uploaded.

Support And Technical Logs

If you email support, the message includes your email address and whatever you choose to write.

Hosting, app marketplace, and infrastructure providers may process standard technical information such as IP address, device or browser type, request URL, timestamps, error logs, and approximate region.

Service Providers

Apple and Google distribute the app and process downloads and updates under their own terms.

Hosted features rely on Supabase for the sync relay and for running the text drafting function, on the text drafting model provider for that one feature, and on Open Food Facts for packaged food lookups. Each receives only what its feature needs.

Your Choices

Export, import, and erase all live in Settings. Export backs up your household, and erase removes it from the device.

You can keep everything local by not joining a household and not using the optional online features. For privacy questions, contact the support address listed on this site.

Changes To This Policy

This policy may be updated as the app changes. The updated version will be posted here with a new date.

Questions can be sent through the support page.
